The BPS Diploma in Advanced Pharmacology aims to extend the pharmacological knowledge base of researchers who are either entering the field of pharmacology, or who wish to develop their expertise in this area. The BPS Diploma programme has been developed and is run by experts from academia, industry and healthcare, and is intended to provide an advanced pharmacological education alongside normal employee duties. The Diploma is validated by senior members of BPS who are recognized teachers and examiners of BSc and MSc programmes in pharmacology at UK universities. Master of Science in Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences
September 2008 – November 2010 (2 years) Groningen, Netherlands.
During this master I followed courses regarding pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, and -kinetics, neurobiology, toxicology and pharmaceutical biology. An essay was written on gene therapy and a colloquium was given on drug hypersensitivity. Three projects of 5 months or more were performed during this time, including an internship at the department of Pharmaceutical Biology and participating in the 2009 iGEM competition as vice chair and treasurer. My final thesis was written in collaboration with the Leibniz-Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie, Berlin, Germany.
BASc
Bachelor of Applied Science in Biotechnology, Major in Medical Research
September 2004 – July 2008 (4 years) Leeuwarden, Netherlands.
Majored in (Bio)Medical Research, with minors in Molecular biology, Toxicology and Laboratory animal management.
Received a Bèta scholarship from the Ministry of Education, culture and science in the Netherlands in 2005.
Three internships of 5 months were performed. In 2006 at the Department of Medical Microbiology of the University Medical Center Groningen, in 2007 at the Department of Medical Biology & Pathology of the University Medical Center Groningen and in 2008 in industry at IMEnz BV, Groningen the Netherlands.
Biotechnology was a collaboration between the University of Applied Science Van Hall Larenstein and The NHL University of Applied Science.
Professional licences and certifications
Pharmacologist – Certified by the Dutch Pharmacological Society (2016 – 2023).
FELASA Category C – Responsible for directing animal experiments (Dutch Art. 9 Wet Op de Dierproeven).
Radiation protection level 5B (Dutch) – Knowledge on using radioisotopes in contained situation and open situations with limited risks.
